Detroit Auto Show 2010 Thoughts
The 2010 North American International Auto Show clearly shows once again that the U.S. economy is not out of the woods yet. Manufacturers are still pulling back on advertising and marketing spending and unfortunately car shows fall under that budget. Chrysler, GM and even some of the exotic makes, such as Ferrari and Maserati have reduced booth footprint. Porsche did not even have a booth. BMW had a tiny booth showing off less than 10 models. Some Asian smaller – never heard of before – manufacturers showed vehicles, which still looked weak in comparison to North American levels of quality. Department of Transportation is going to have a field day with them.
Interestingly enough, alternate fuel vehicles took an emerging spot in the show, with their own little section in the show. The models portrayed were from Revenge, Mitsubishi, Toyota, SSI and a couple of other manufacturers. Really looking forward to seeing more of the sporty type electric vehicles, such as SSI’s blue Shelby GT car. It clearly shows us that going electric doesn’t always mean you are stuck driving an ugly, small box sitting on a large battery.
That being said and despite my impression of the show I was still able to capture 400 pictures. Some hot items, some not so hot. Enjoy.
